Previous Winners of the X Factor

The X Factor 2009 is set to hit our screens again in just under ten days; it’s amazing that the time of year is once again truly upon us. X Factor for me signals the end of summer and the beginning of the cold winter months. I am certain that the show will once again have millions of viewers tuning in and this year’s show is set to be even bigger and better than any other year. Simon Cowell has indicated that he wants to find a worldwide superstar again. So in the run up to the show, let’s take a look at some of the previous winners and where they are down.

                                                 Steve Brookstein

Steve Brookstein was the winner of the first ever series, the X Factor was still fresh for the public who had been used to the Pop Idol format, so probably a lot of talented singers were waiting for the more successful at the time Pop Idol auditions to begin. There was a bit of talent and one was in the form of Steve Brookstein, Steve shot to number one with his debut single and then disappeared out of the limelight after he was dropped from his record label.

                                                   Shayne Ward

The second season of X Factor started to produce some real and unique talent and personally the second season helped X factors shelf life, simply because the public saw their was talent. Shayne ward went on to sell millions of singles worldwide and dominate countries such as Asia; a new album is planned for 2009.

                                                        Leona Lewis

The X Factor had truly built up momentum by the third series and this is one that the public will always remember. Leona Lewis literally came on the show and blew every one away. Since the show Leona has gone on to become a multi platinum selling artists, her singles have shot straight to number one and she has been the one of the most successful UK acts to ever break America.

                                                     Leon Jackson

After the two successful seasons of the X Factor, there was bound to be one failure, the fourth season just really did not cut it and I do believe that there was much talent. Personally I believe the fourth season was more about the judges as Danni Minogue was introduced. Leon went straight to number one with his debut single, but failed to impress after. In March 2009 he was dropped from the Sony record label.

                                                   Alexandra Burke

The most recent series again saw some good talent come through, the winner Alexandra Burke shot straight to number one with her debut single and her album is set for release in October 2009. The show also produced JLS who were runners up and have since launched a successful career.

Hay, how it may happen that competitors without any vocal talent have been voted for next round and the bright star who is one of the srongest competitors was placed on the edge of survival? There is something wrong here! It is singers’ competition, to win the contestent needs to sing at least good.

X Factor Sanday’s show definitely shocked may viewers by the result of people’s votes.

I don’t think that we expected to see Danyl Johnson at the bottom two results. And I cann’t agree with judge Cheryl Cole decision, but it was up to her to decide.

I am very glad that finally Danyl was on the track again but he should be there from the beginning.

The good surprice was new Rachel’s appearance, it changed voters’ mind. She became nice young girl with strong voice. Thanks to people who are working on her image!

Stacey was not of her best this time but public like this girl and she is in again.

As usually, Olly, Jamie, Lucie, Joseph performed very well and they were recognised by the viewers accordingly. lloyd is in also but he still struggling to build his confidence, hopefully it will come during the competition.

It’s a pity that Loui’s group Miss Frank had to leave the contest, girls peroformance at Saturday show was pleasant suprise, girls definitely improved a lot. And I hope that they will find their way as a vocal group, they have something to become known.

So who is your favourite? Who will be the next to leave? Let’s wait till next Saturday, November 1st.

The 12 best contestants of X Factor 2009 have started the fight of their life.

The first round that took place on Saturday 10 th of September and Sunday 11th was completed with rather predictable result. As many viewers agreed, the weakest link, girls group Kandy Rain is out of competition.

But there were two surprises on Sunday’s show. John and Edwards were moved to next stage by viewers’ votes and Rachel Adedeji was place in the position to compete with Kandy Range to survive.

After two last contenders finished their acts the judges’ verdict was 2:2, Simon made very clever decision to vote for Kandy Rain. So final decision who will be out was taken on the basis of viewers votes. Rachel Adedeji joined lucky 10 contenders.

Here is final act of Kandy Rain:

Judges of X Factor 2009 show have announced the best 3 acts in each 4 groups.

They are:

The boys:

                                                     Joseph Mc Elderley

                                                           Lloyd Daniels

                                                       Rikki Loney

The girls:

                                                        Lucie Jones

                                                      Rachel Adedeji

                                                        Stacey Solomon

Over 25s:

                                                        Danyl Johnson

                                                     Jamie Archer

                                                        Olly Murs

The group:

                                                  John and Edward

                                                           Kandy Rain

                                                      Miss Frank

Judges had rather difficult tasks to make their choice, especially Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell who had, from our point of view, the strongest contestants.

Dannii has the strongest group this year and Stacey Solomon, Lucie Jones and  Rachel Adedji are very strong contenders to go.

Simon went for Jamie, Olly and Danyl, and these guys have all potential to reach final.

Cheryl supprised the viewers by not putting Duane on the list of final three. Joseph, Rikki and Lloyd will have very difficult task to survive because of their age and lack of confidence, at least at this stage of competition.

As far as the groups, this year Louis has the weakest contenders and we don’t think that John and Edwards, Kandy Rain and Miss Frank will go far in this contest.

But sometimes strange things happen, so let’s see what result first shows on Saturday and Sunday will bring.

Who Will Win the X-Factor Fashion Stakes?

The X-Factor returned to our screens on Saturday and the show ended up with what Simon Cowell described as the best first audition ever from school teacher Danyl Johnson. It was a really great performance, certainly not possible in the old format in front of just the judges, but with the live audience Danyl set out to entertain, and boy did he entertain.

Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue both looked fantastic. Danni sported a great new bob hairstyle and looked very stylish. As usual she was seen in her trademark one shoulder outfits. Danni’s look on the show has always been marked by blouses, knee length skirts and dresses, and great statement shoes. This perhaps indicates her more mature years over Cheryl.

Cheryl wore agreat Tibi dress, and sported a coiffed pony tail look. She appeared to have adopted more colourful items, although as the auditions were through the summer maybe that was an influence. Think of Cheryl and you think of short dresses, tightly fitting outfits, leather trousers and platform heels. As the most talked about member of glamour girl group Girls Aloud, she is a trendsetter rather than a follower of fashion.

Do they compete which each other over fashion? They say no, but no doubt they both want to look better than their fellow judge, although I am sure they would not dare to be heard in public saying rival.

My money is still on Cheryl getting more fashion headlines, but that is more to do with her looks and youth, and popularity, than necessarily dressing better. Danni has her style, and no doubt will also have designers wanting to dress her when the live finals come around.

As for who will win in the fashion stakes? Hard to tell, but there will be plenty of great dresses that will have celebrity wannabes clamouring to get a similar style in the coming weeks.

Can Cheryl Cole Break America?

Cheryl ColeFor those of you that do not know who Cheryl Cole is, she is one of the members of the Girls Aloud group and married to footballer Ashley Cole. Cheryl Cole, who was formerly know as Cheryl Tweedy was born in Newcastle – upon Tyne, England. She is one of five children in her family.

Before getting her big break in Girls Aloud, Cheryl won various modelling gigs as well as appearing on TV commercials and shows. It was in 2002 that Cheryl auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals, singing S Club 7’s "Have You Ever". After singing her way to win a place in the band she has gone on to become a national hit.

Cheryl Cole, X Factor, Simon CowellIn 2008 Cheryl’s career moved to the next level as it was announced she would be a judge next to Simon Cowell on the popular X Factor show, which was widely accepted by the British public. She went on to win the show with one of her acts Alexandra Burke.

But now it is suggested that Cheryl could be well on her way to crack the American market. Although a very daunting task that a lot of people have failed to achieve, with the help of fellow judge Simon Cowell and his ever growing popularity, it is a feat that is in sight of being achieved.

It is rumoured that Simon Cowell is helping Cheryl Cole obtain a working visa for the US market and that he is trying to organise an interview with Oprah Winfrey to boost her profile.

Oprah Winfrey, Girls AloudBut is this only about launching Cheryl Cole or is it a great approach to launch Girls Aloud? We all know that it is very hard to break open the USA music market, but with getting in Cheryl Cole first and building up her profile in the USA, it would then become a lot easier to launch a successful band.

Simon Cowells recently successful launch of Leona Lewis has made his profile a lot stronger in the form of bringing over talent from the UK. But to be honest Girls Aloud are no Leona Lewis and they have nowhere near her vocal range. But I feel with the correct type of music, maybe a more of an urban take then Girls Aloud can crack the market in no time.

                                                   GIRLS ALOUD

Although it will be a hard task for Cheryl to balance all of her schedule including cracking America, being a judge on the X Factor, touring with Girls Aloud and spending time with her Husband, I am sure it is achievable and we all know that the harder a person works the more benefits they get. So let’s see how it all turns out.

Simon Cowell: The Man Behind the Scowl

Ah, Simon Cowell: the wit, the jabs, the accent. If you’re like me – a fan of American Idol (Hi Sanjaya!) – you probably find yourself having a love/hate relationship with good ol’ Simon. On one hand he’s cute, he’s funny, and he’s extremely honest: he’s seemingly what every girl wants to find in a man. But, on the other hand, he’s a little too honest. He’s not the type of guy a woman should approach in a new pair of jeans and ask, "Do these make me look fat?" Sometimes Simon should simply plead the fifth.

simon cowell, pop idolStill, you have to respect his honesty. In a world where lying and brown nosing run rampant, Simon has taken a stand and said what most people are afraid to say: exactly what he thinks. This leaves many of us curious about who he really is; just who is the Cowell behind the scowl?

Simon Cowell was born in Brighton, England to a music industry property executive and a socialite. From a large family – and here we thought he was an only child – Simon has three half brothers, a half sister, and a younger brother. A family of success, many of his siblings are multimillionaires.

After dropping out of school at the age of 17, Simon teetered between a few random jobs before, with the help of his father, landing a job in the mail room at EMI Music Publishing. Going from the mail room to where Simon is now may seem like something straight out of television, but for Simon – a man known for blending TV with real life – this "television like plot" proved to be his reality.

He soon began to climb the ranks of EMI, periodically leaving to pursue other endeavors, only to return when those endeavors failed. In 1985, however, the failing temporarily ceased: Simon, along with a coworker, launched an independent record label called Fanfare Records. For four years Fanfare saw success, but in 1989 – when the mother company of Fanfare discontinued – Simon was met with bankruptcy, debt, and a move back in with his parents.

In late 1989, Simon landed a job as an A&R representative for BMG. Here he signed a number of pop acts who were well received and began releasing novelty recordings. These featured, among others, songs from The Teletubbies and The Power Rangers.

In 2001, Simon was given his proverbial gavel and became a judge on Pop Idol, a British television reality series that featured undiscovered young talent in the United Kingdom. Like its spin-off, American Idol, Pop Idol involved viewers calling in to vote for their favorites.

Born from Pop Idol, American Idol hit the airwaves in 2002 and – with Simon at the judging helm – became an instant hit. The success of American Idol is based on many factors – America’s love for music, the excitement of discovering talent that would otherwise go unnoticed, the ability to participate in the choice that is made – but one huge factor is simply Simon. Without people tuning in to see what he will say, American Idol would not have garnered such a huge fan base.

While working on American Idol, Simon also serves on the judging panel of The X Factor, a British talent show airing on Saturdays. Produced by Simon’s production company, The X Factor aims to find performers who possess that indescribable factor capable of making them a star. Unlike Pop Idol or American Idol, The X Factor has no age limit, allowing anyone over 14 to participate, and allows both solo singers and groups to enter the competition.

In 2006, Simon secured himself – both financially and in pop culture – by signing a five year contract worth 38 million. In addition to American Idol, Simon is involved with American Inventor, America’s Got Talent, Celebrity Duets, Grease is the Word, and Rock Rivals.

Love him or hate him – or go back and forth – American Idol would not be the same without Simon Cowell. He brings an element of surprise and brutal honesty to the show. Sometimes he seems cruel, but most of the time he simply appears like a man whose bark is way worse that his bite.

The biggest thing fans really have to appreciate about him is that when he sees someone who is a good singer, he doesn’t play games: he tells them they’re great and when he says it we know he means it. It is a sentiment dear to the heart, and one he conveys in my imagination each time I sing in the shower.

X Factor 2009 contest is at the final stage of nomination of 12 finalists that will be announced by judges on Sunday 4th of September. It will be very hard task for judges because most of the contestants in boys, girls and over 25s categories are rather good. We shall see what judges will decide.

Below you will find the information about some changes of the foprmat of the show in 2009.

X Factor Reveals a New Format For 2009

x factor, x factor 2009, simon cowel, louis walsh, cheryl coleWe are currently in the middle of a great summer and we all know when the summer comes to an end because we begin to hear the X Factor theme tune, which has become a great part of British telly. The X Factor is probably one of the more successful reality shows on TV which is up their with Britain’s Got Talent, which has just finished its 2009 run. Britain’s Got Talent pulled in some of its largest viewers to date and it also greatly took America by storm, so this year’s X Factor has to get a whole lot bigger and a whole lot better.

But there will be a big change for the 2009 version of the X Factor, for so long people have been auditioning only in front of the judges and the camera crew. But Simon Cowell has announced that people will instead audition in front of a live audience, something pretty similar to Britain’s Got Talent. The audience will be able to boo the auditionees off of the stage if they are not good enough.

This move could be both a good one and a bad one, the reason for saying this is because the good aspects will be that the public will be involved right from the beginning stages of the show. The bad aspect is that we must remember that this show is not like Britain’s Got Talent, this is a singing contest and the more nervous someone gets the less likely they are going to be to sing well. Besides from that we may not be able to hear each acts voice very well because of the booing from the audience.

On the other hand the team have indicated that it is not the audience that are going to be in control, the judges will still have the final verdict. The panel on the other hand remain the same with Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue. Auditions have already began for the series and with almost three months left for the show to air I am sure there will be much more in store such as act and judges arguing and walking out.

All in all it is looking set to become another great show with lots of talent and controversy, I just hope that they are able to find another great star like Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward.

The X Factor 2009

This talent competition produces better and better talent year on year, and 2009 is no exception! At the time of writing this article there have been only three shows, and I have already chosen TEN potential winners. Admittedly some are more potential than others, but if you’ll permit me, I’ll share my list with you along with my thoughts on the artists.

In no particular order, I have…

Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer. Auditions 2.

                               jamie archer

This 33 year old has been trying to get a big break for a long time, feeling that his talents were not appreciated in the small venues that he’d played before this show.

He performed Sex On Fire by the Kings Of Leon in a manner that Simon Cowell described as ‘fearless’. I was not personally familiar with this track, so after his performance I went off to listen to the original. Oh My God! In my opinion Jamie Afro did a FAR better job than the original group! He brought his own passion for music and an ability to involve the audience together in a perfect fusion. He’s got a great rock singer voice and the ability to perform in the studio or live on stage with equal panache.

Jade Fubara. Auditions 3.
Jade is a 17 year old school girl with big dreams and a big voice, along with a dedicated group of supporters.

Young Jade amazed me, I must admit. Her Acapella rendition of And I’m Telling You was without doubt impressive. She wowed the crowd with her note-perfect singing and powerful voice. I feel this raw talent could go a very, very long way.

Lucie Jones. Auditions 3.

This Welsh delight comes from the village of Pentyrch, a place so small it could be described as a ‘one 4×4 town’. A charming young lady, unafraid to take on one of the biggest songs in pop history.

When Lucie announced to the panel that she was going to perform Whitney Houston’s song I Will Always Love You, Simon Cowell asked her if she was "sure she wanted to perform that song". She was! Lucie performed this oh-so-hard-to-sing track with apparent ease. Her clear and perfectly pitched voice was used to great effect, and was sung ‘her way’, without trying to impersonate Whitney.

Daryl Markham. Auditions 2.

                               Daryl Markham

Daryl is a 40 year old carpenter from West Sussex. He was meant to be on last year’s show, but the dates clashed with his brother’s wedding day, so of course that came first. Sadly, he lost his brother to lung cancer shortly afterward.

Although emotionally charged after telling his story to the panel, Daryl was still able to perform Rod Stewart’s song I Don’t Want To Talk About It. Louis Walsh described his voice as amazingly commercial and I concur. Like Lucie he performed the track without trying to impersonate the original artist, and it worked very well for him. I just hope that revealing his personal tragedy is not going to influence the voting in any way. The big test for Daryl, I feel, will be getting through boot-camp.

Miss Fitz. Auditions 2.

                               Miss Fitz

A girl-group with a clever name and a clever twist. One of the girls, Gemma, got through auditions in 2006 (Leona Lewis’s year), but didn’t make it through boot-camp. Now she’s back with fellow brunette Marina and a blond girl whose name (I think) is Maikin.

Most often, a girl-group will attempt to perform another girl-group song and fail miser 4f7b ably doing so. These young ladies were smarter than that. Marina announced that they were going to perform Britney Spears track Womanizer, but with a twist, and what a twist it was! They used a style that I can only describe as a cross between Big Band and The Andrews Sisters. A resounding success taking a modern song and taking it back to the 1940’s and making it work incredibly well.

Rozelle Phillip. Auditions 2.

                               Rozelle Phillip

This 21 year old is originally from Trinidad and Tobago and moved to the UK a year ago. Brought up by her grandmother, she decided that she MUST enter the competition after seeing Leona Lewis win. With the full support and urging of her grandmother her she is.

This girl is a Diva in the making! Another big performance, this time of Jennifer Hudson’s track One Night Only. Perfectly delivered, her eyes were full of delight and a hint of wickedness that enhanced her performance to huge effect. She is another natural-born singer and performer.

Danyl Johnson. Auditions 1.

                               Danyl Johnson

This 27 year old school teacher had Simon Cowell standing and applauding at the end of his audition. At round-up time, Simon described it as "single handedly the best first audition I have ever heard". An accolade indeed!

Singing The Beatles track With A Little Help From My Friends, this audition was a winner right from the start. Performed with the passion and feeling of a natural live entertainer, he had the audience and the panel totally with him with ease. Keep an eye on this one!

Stacey Soloman. Auditions 1.

                               stacey solomon

Ok, so she’s 19 years old, she’s blond, she’s from Dagenham in Essex (UK readers will already be forming stereo-typed image), and she came on stage in tiny shorts showing long, perfect legs.

So what does she choose to sing? Louis Armstrong’s classic, What A Wonderful World. It is no exaggeration to say that her rendition took the entire panel by surprise. A clear, sweet and perfectly controlled voice which Simon said was "really, really good", and I humbly agree! I’m still blown away by the amount of talent I’ve reviewed so far, and there’s more to come.

Joseph McElderry. Auditions 1.

                               Joseph McElderry

An 18 year old student from Cheryl Cole’s neck of the woods, South Shields. This young man had never performed before an audience larger than about 100 and a few charity gigs.

This guy sung a tough song with heart-touching perfection. His treatment of Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross was simply wonderful. Already a song that brings a tear to the eye, Joseph’s clear and strong voice did it full justice and would have put a tear in the eyes of the Presidents of Mount Rushmore! I believe this young man is destined for great things.

Lloyd Daniels. Auditions 3.

                               Lloyd Daniels

He’s a 16 year old student from South Wales; he’s also blond and a young ladies dream! Before X Factor, he’d only ever done Karaoke and school plays. So quite a transition!

At first Lloyd tried to perform I’m Yours by Jason Mraz. It started well enough, but although he didn’t lose the lyrics or his timing, his vocals were unable to keep up with the formulated pitch-changes that make the song a lot harder to perform than most people think. Thankfully, Cheryl Cole had spotted that this young man had potential, and stopped the audition so that Lloyd could try another song. She could see that audition nerves were affecting him and convinced Simon Cowell to give him a second shot. So Simon asked Lloyd to sing something else acapella. Pushing his nerves aside he launched into the R Kelly track If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time. Without the backing track, Lloyd was a little faster in tempo than the original, but he certainly did not do it harm by doing so. Another one to watch!
